Craniosacral Therapy

—‘Natural forces within us, are the true healers of disease’

Hippocrates

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a subtle and profound healing form. Very gentle and highly effective

The client lies fully clothed on a treatment table and the therapist makes gentle contact with his hands on your body.

It first came about when William Sutherland was a student in the first ever Osteopathic training and he sensed subtle rhythms within the cells, tissues and fluids of the body. He did certain experiments and realised for example when put tension around the head he had headaches and he realised as was long known in the east that the bones of the head are not fixed but actually move subtly between the sutures and the temporal bone brought the image of the gills of a fish, which is where they breathe from as the work has evolved over the years it has got gradually more subtle and it now understood that

We are known to be a microcosmic version of the whole universe that is the macrocosm. So similar to weather patterns when you see the eye at the centre of the cloud ( like you see on pictures of the weather)  and forces spiralling around that. Similarly our bodies do the same, and create little black holes that contain our traumatic dissociated life experiences contained in the body. At the centre of these forces is pure health vortexing off that which cannot be contained, this contracts and compromises our system, as when more and more of these inertial fulcrums develop, then there is less and less life force available to the individual, which I believe is what happens in ME, chronic fatigue type situations.

When the practitioner keeps a presence that is safe the clients system tunes into that centre, midline and intuitively can start to process that which was not able to be processed when the original overwhelm (trauma)  happened in the first place.

All living things have a centre an organising force a midline. The earth for example spins on its own axis, the planets move around the solar system in certain way. Each leaf of a tree has a centre, a midline through it. When a practitioner holds this centre, the clients system immediately knows to orient to coalesce around that centre.

I find that biodynamic craniosacral is the most person centred form of therapy as the therapist is holding space and the clients system, along with the vast forces that are at work inside and outside of the body.

I think the flower of life symbol comes from Tibetan Buddhism to me when giving craniosacral work, each of us is like this flower of life and when we have had overwhelming and traumatic events in our life. When I say ‘trauma’ I mean anything that is Too much, Too fast, Too soon, causes a situation where the organism is not able to digest it. So similar to when we eat our food too fast and get indigestion, when have undigested life experiences they cause a form of indigestion to our body, soul and mind.

I invite you to come and try the life changing gift of craniosacral work.
